"Hanged at Norwich" A new publication by Neil Storey
Neil R. Storey's new Book delves into 145 ruthless hangings spanning Norwich's most famous prisons.
Norwich has been the location for many hangings over the years, from the thirteenth century right up to the last execution conducted in the county in 1951. Notorious criminals such as Frances Billing and Catherine Frary ‘The Burnham Poisoners’ - the last public double execution and last women to hang in the county; James Blomfield Rush—the Stanfield Hall Murderer; and Herbert Bennett—the Yarmouth Bootlace Murderer who may, or may not, have been guilty of his crime, have all hung for their crimes in historic Norwich.
Neil R. Storey’s diligent research has culminated in this account that details all of Norwich’s grimly fascinating hangings. These 145 captivating stories from over the last 800 years go into detail about the culprits crimes, their punishments and their eventual deaths. Including tales from Norwich Castle Prison, Norwich City Prison on Earlham Road and the later Victorian Norwich Prison on Knox Road, Hanged at Norwich is the ultimate guide to the cities most infamous incidents and gruesome hangings.
